Luke Rockhold is currently on a hot streak through the UFC's middleweight division, riding a three-fight unbeaten streak including a submission win over British veteran Michael Bisping in his most recent bout.
Now it looks like the #5-ranked UFC middleweight is on a collision course with Lyoto Machida. Though an official bout agreement has not yet been signed, Luke believes a contest with Lyoto is the most likely next step for him - and he would like to face the challenge at UFC on FOX 15 in Newark, New Jersey on April 18th.
"Machida sounds like the match-up [the UFC] want and I think it's just a matter of when and where," Rockhold told MMAFighting.com. "I'd love to do it on the biggest stage possible, where I'd love it would be FOX. Let's main event on FOX, winner gets the title shot."
"The winner is the number-one contender and should get the title shot," he added. "What better way to build a pay-per-view fight than put us on FOX and let's do it right. I think the stylistic match-up between me and Machida is going to be one of the best fights of the year, if not a lot more. I just know it's going to be a fun fight that deserves a big stage like that. What better stage than FOX?"
With the chance to become the next man in line for a shot at the UFC 185lb title, as well as currently being nominated for 'Fighter of the Year' at the Fighters Only World MMA Awards, 2015 could turn out to be an excellent year for Rockhold.
"Machida is very good but I know I can go out there and beat Machida," he said. "I'm a different fighter now, I'm on another level than him and I believe any fighter in my division. I believe I'm the best fighter in the world."
