It’s going to be a quick turnaround for Norway-based Swede Jack Hermansson.
After submitting David Branch in just 49 seconds in the biggest fight of his career on 30th March, he’s now slated to face former Strikerforce middleweight champion and Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenom Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza on 27th April.
Jacare was supposed to be facing Yoel Romero at UFC on ESPN 3 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. However, the Cuban was forced from the fight with an undisclosed illness.
While the severity of Romero’s illness is unknown, outlets such as MMA Junkie report that the former Olympian has been battling pneumonia.
Should Hermansson earn a victory against Souza, he inserts himself into the mix as a viable UFC title contender.
He has won five of his last six UFC fights, all finishes, beating the likes of Branch, Gerald Meerschaert and Thales Leites.
Souza is also coming off a high, having scored a stirring knockout win from out of nowhere to end former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman last November.
