Kevin Lee’s welterweight experiment is officially one and done.

Lee will return to the lightweight division to fight the unbeaten Gregor Gillespie in the latest fun fight to fill out the UFC 244 card set to take place on 2 November in New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

That event is, of course, set to be headlined by a clash between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal for the ‘BMF’ belt.

The match-up was announced earlier today on Twitter.

“The Motown Phenom” moved up a weight class after some publicised issues in making the 155-pound limit.

However, Lee came unstuck against Rafael dos Anjos on his welterweight debut, succumbing to a fourth-round submission loss.

That was Lee’s second loss in a row, having been defeated by Al Iaquinta for the second time one fight prior.

Gillespie will prove a stern test for Lee. Unbeaten, Gillespie is 13-0 – six wins coming in the UFC – with 11 wins by stoppage in total.

The Long Islander is a decorated NCAA national champion wrestler and Lee will undoubtedly be his toughest test in the sport of MMA so far.
