Though the final destination has yet been announced, it seems UFC President Dana White has plenty of options for where he plans to host UFC 249 on 18 April.
That’s a good thing too, as the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic remains very much a fluid problem across the world.
“I’m gonna try and pull off Tony [Ferguson] vs. Khabib [Nurmagomedov] on April 18 and try to get some normalcy back in this country,” White told former boxing world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
“Every day that I work on this thing, I get another curve ball thrown at me when I wake up. Every time we plan something, it falls apart — I have to re-do it, re-do it.
“I have four or five locations right now and we’re getting this deal done. And then we’re going to figure out who we can get in, who we can’t, what we can do and we’re going to build a card around it.”
White has said that he knows where the UFC will host UFC 249 in previous interviews as much of the sports world remains in lockdown, though he never announced the venue.
It’s unclear whether his plans have since changed due to daily changes in laws and government orders trying to protect public health.
Regardless, White appears determined to get this fight between UFC lightweight champion Nurmagomedov and Ferguson over the line – at the fifth time of asking – on 18 April.
