News recently emerged that UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman was leaving long-time training camp Hard Knocks 365 in Florida for pastures new in Colorado.
While the main reason for moving was initially to avoid training alongside now-former teammate Gilbert Burns, his upcoming opponent at UFC 251; the promotion’s first event on “Fight Island,” Usman claimed that his move away from Florida and coach Henri Hooft was always an eventuality.

Judging by this Instagram post from Usman’s new teammate Justin Gaethje, “The Nigerian Nightmare” is getting in those hard rounds with one of the promotion’s best in preparation for Burns.
“Iron sharpens iron,” Gaethje wrote in his video caption. “How much would you pay to watch this for a few rounds? [Kamaru Usman] is looking like a straight killer. Glad to have him in the room. Just two dudes having fun.”
Usman will face Burns on 11 July in the main event of UFC 251 on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island.
Meanwhile, Geathje is gearing up for a UFC lightweight title unification bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov in the near future. It’s thought that the pair will face each other in September, but no details for the fight have yet been announced.
