At the third time of asking, UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns are reportedly set to lock horns at UFC 258 in February.
According to ESPN, the former teammates have both verbally agreed to the bout on 13 February.
At the time of writing, no location has been announced for this championship bout.
This matchup has already fallen through on two occasions.
The pair were all set to fight at UFC 251 on Fight Island in July, before Burns tested positive for COVID-19. Jorge Masvidal stepped in to face Usman on short notice, only to lose a decision as the champion made his second successful title defence.
Burns was then due to get his shot at Usman’s belt at UFC 256 on 12 December, but Usman pulled out of that contest due to lingering injury issues.
Usman is riding a 16-fight win streak going into his next bout, while Burns is riding the crest of a wave with six victories in a row.
