The event, set to take place on 6 March at a yet-to-be disclosed venue, already had two championship bouts booked with UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz defending his crown against UFC middleweight titleholder Israel Adesanya in the main event.
In the co-main event, Amanda Nunes will seek to knock off another title challenger in Megan Anderson as they fight for the former’s UFC featherweight championship.
Yan’s first title defence was originally booked for UFC 256 before he withdrew from the bout with Sterling.
The Russian captured the vacant belt at 135 pounds against Jose Aldo at UFC 251 and is unbeaten in the UFC, posting 7 wins with the promotion.
Sterling is on a stretch of five wins in a row, defeating top contender Cory Sandhagen in his last bout to secure his long-awaited title shot.
