She may have just fought for the UFC women’s featherweight championship, but Megan Anderson could be looking for a new fighting home after her UFC contract expired.
Anderson’s final fight of her UFC deal saw her suffer a first-round loss to two-division champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 259 last weekend.
The news was first reported by MMA Fighting and later confirmed by the UFC and other outlets.
Australia’s Anderson also confirmed the news herself, saying that her time with the UFC had come to an end on her Twitch live stream.
Anderson also mentioned that the UFC planned to dissolve its women’s featherweight division altogether. However, that was latter rebuffed by the UFC according to the MMA Fighting report.
Champion Nunes – a natural bantamweight – has fought at the 145-pound limit only three times – each of them in title fights. The Brazilian has posted wins over compatriot Cris Cyborg, Felicia Spencer and Anderson.
Anderson was on a two-fight win streak going into UFC 259, scoring back-to-back victories en route to earning her title shot. In six fights, the former Invicta FC champion put together a 3-3 UFC record.
According to MMA Junkie, Anderson’s management team Paradigm Sports said the featherweight will nurse some lingering injuries before plotting her next career move.
