A battle of two top-tier bantamweights has a new date.
Cory Sandhagen and T.J. Dillashaw were set to headline UFC on ESPN 24 on 8 May, but was postponed after the latter suffered a cut in training. Per MMA Junkie, the pair will finally face off on 24 July.
Dillashaw vs. Sandhagen will be the bout that headlines that 24 July card, though no location for the event has been announced at the time of writing.
This contest will see Dillashaw compete in the Octagon for the first time in over two-and-a-half years. After his last bout – a losing effort against Henry Cejudo for the UFC flyweight belt – the former two-time UFC bantamweight champion tested positive for EPO and was served a two-year suspension and was stripped of his belt at 135 pounds.
While Dillashaw was sat on the sidelines, Sandhagen has established himself as one of the UFC bantamweight division’s most dangerous competitors. That status was rubber stamped following two spectacular knockout victories over top contender Marlon Moraes and then former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.
