Cage Warriors has announced the expansion of its European reach, with the promotion confirming the addition of a new arm of its Cage Warriors Academy Network.
The UK-based organization has announced the launch of Cage Warriors Academy: Italy, with the promotion having already established a solid footprint in the nation.
Cage Warriors has hosted multiple events in Italy, and is set to return to Fiera Roma in Rome for Cage Warriors 158 on July 29. A host of Italian fighters have also made their mark under the Cage Warriors banner, including Michele Martignoni and Stefano Paterno, who have captured championship gold with the promotion.
Now, the arrival of Cage Warriors Academy: Italy, the promotion will seek to identify and bring through the next generation of Italian mixed martial artists.
The Academy will be led by Aurura MMA’s Lorenzo Borgomeo, who said he was looking forward to establishing Cage Warriors’ new Academy setup on Italian soil.
“Cage Warriors in Italy has changed everything for the Italian MMA movement,” said Borgomeo.
“My goal with Cage Warriors Academy: Italy is to develop as much talent as possible in this country, where the landscape of MMA has not been the brightest. The only thing we were missing were solid events.
“Cage Warriors put trust in us for the pros and we’ve had an amazing start. The missing piece was the amateur side of things. Now that we have that, Italy is ready to take off!”
