One of the biggest fan-favorites in French MMA finally has his shot on the big stage.
Former Cage Warriors featherweight champion Morgan Charriere has signed with the UFC, with news of “The Last Pirate’s” opportunity initially emerging via a report by Maitres Fumiers.
Soon after, Charriere’s manager Graham Boylan shared a video of him surprising the Frenchman with the news that he was now a UFC fighter, and that he’d be fighting in Paris.
Charriere has been one of the biggest stars in Cage Warriors for the past few years. The 27-year-old lost out to former two-weight champion Soren Bak as he challenged for the interim featherweight title on his promotional debut back in 2019, but eventually went on to capture the undisputed featherweight title when he stopped Perry Goodwin with a body shot to win the vacant title at Cage Warriors 119 in December 2020.
Charriere then lost his title via the slimmest of margins as he found himself on the wrong end of a split decision against Jordan Vucenic in March 2021, then he was edged by majority decision for the interim belt when he faced Paul Hughes seven months later.
Charriere regrouped and returned to action one year later at Cage Warriors 147, where he edged Daniel Bazant on the scorecards. That win sparked a run of three wins in the space of eight months as he followed that victory with a first-round doctor stoppage of Pedro Souza in April 2023, then, most recently, a third-round TKO of Diego Silva at Cage Warriors 157 in London in July.
The Frenchman, who is backed by a passionate and raucous fanbase wherever he fights, is sure to bring plenty of support for his Octagon debut, with his opponent still to be officially confirmed.
