Fresh off his first round win over Thiago Tavares last month at the TUF 23 Finale, the ‘Korean Superboy’ Doo Ho Choi wants a piece of UFC veteran Cub Swanson.
Choi has made an exceptional start to his UFC career, raking up three first round finishes on the trot and becoming a rapid fan favorite while extending his overall record to 15-1 and doing so with style points. Following comments by Swanson earlier this week, where he told up and coming prospects, “If you want some, come get some.” Choi hasn’t wasted any time by taking to Facebook today and calling him out.
“I want it,” said Choi. “I have been watching you since before even before I made my UFC debut. Since my UFC debut I have won all three fights in style. I think it will be a good fight between two of us. We both are the ones that try and knockout the opponents.
“I like this type of fighters. Even though my ranking is not high now, like you mentioned before, it is not important whether you fight rookies or the top rankers. If you could tell UFC that you also want to fight me that would be great. I would appreciate it. I want to fight you. I will be looking forward to seeing you in the Octagon.”
That’s about as respectful as a call out gets in the fight game. The match-up would make no sense according to the official UFC rankings as Swanson is currently ranked at #5 and Choi at #13. Having said that, at a time when the matchmaking rule book seems to have thrown out of the window in favour of giving the fans what they want – Diaz vs. McGregor 2 and Bisping vs. Henderson 2 – perhaps the styles of both featherweights can sway Joe Silva and Sean Selby to add this fight to a year end card.
