Another day, another fight added to UFC 216 in Canada. Hot on the heels of the news that Henry Cejudo will fight Wilson Reis on September 9, the UFC have announced a scrap at heavyweight between Luis Henrique and Arjan Bhullar.
Bhullar, a 2012 Olympic freestyle wrestler, will be making his UFC debut on the card, having turned professional off the back of a decorated wrestling career in 2014. Since then the 31-year-old Canadian has racked up six straight wins, three via knockout, and recently scored a decision against Joe Yager in April. Bhullar, in beating Yager, defended his Battlefield Fight League heavyweight title.
Henrique, meanwhile, is a 23-year-old Brazilian with UFC submission victories over Christian Columbo Dmitry Smoliakov. Defeats to Francis Ngannou and, last time out, Marcin Tybura have managed to keep Henrique’s ambitions in check and leave him wanting a win over Bhullar to get back in the win column and kickstart some much-needed momentum.
Also announced today was a middleweight bout for UFC Fight Night 114 in Mexico. This one involves Sweden’s Jack Hermansson and England’s Brad Scott, both of whom have agreed to thrown down at the Mexico City Arena on August 5.
Hermansson, 15-3, was recently seen stopping Alex Nicholson inside a round in May, before his adoring home fans. Prior to that, the 28-year-old Swede lost to Cezar Ferreira, his first loss in three-and-a-half years. Now back on track, he looks to once again string together an unbeaten run, starting with Scott on August 5.
Scott, 11-4, succumbed to rampaging Australian Robert Whittaker in the final of The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, but has since emerged as a win-one-lose-one welterweight who, last time out, defeated fellow countryman Scott Askham via split-decision. He hasn’t been stopped for eight years.
