Liverpool’s Darren Till has failed to meet the 171lbs welterweight limit as he was preparing to face Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in his hometown.
Till was given an additional hour to make weight, but weighed in at 174.5lbs on Saturday morning. American Thompson had earlier successfully tipped the scales at the limit of 171lbs.
At present, it remains unclear if the fight will go ahead.
The fight on Sunday evening was set to be Till’s first fight on home soil, signifying the UFC’s first trip to Merseyside. Till, who is unbeaten, will surely hope his contest against number one contender Thompson is somehow unaffected.
Till’s fellow Liverpudlian Molly McCann also missed weight. The flyweight weighed in at 127lbs – a pound over the 126lbs limit – having also been given an additional hour.
