Khabib Nurmagomedov faces a nine-month suspension and a $500,000 fine from the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) for his role in the UFC 229 post-fight brawl with Conor McGregor’s camp.
Nurmagomedov’s suspension is retroactive to October 6th. The Dagestan fighter’s team reached a settlement with the NAC prior to the hearing, which was approved by the commission’s panel.
Khabib’s suspension could be cut to six months if he participates in a state anti-bullying campaign, which would see him film a PSA for Nevada.
Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tukhugov, Khabib’s teammates who were involved in the mass brawl, were both served retroactive one-year suspensions and fines of $25,000.
The brawl occurred shortly after Nurmagomedov’s fourth-round submission win over McGregor to retain his lightweight championship.
With both fighters’ careers put on hold awaiting this NAC hearing after the post-fight melee, it’s unclear who each man will face next.
