The first event of Cage Warriors’ 2023 schedule is upon us, and the promotion has confirmed its six-fight bout order for San Diego on March 3.
The promotion, which has made San Diego its second home since the world emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic, will kick off its calendar of events with the first of four planned shows at the Sycuan Casino Resort.
Headlining the event is a battle of bantamweight veterans looking to earn a shot at the Cage Warriors title, as former UFC flyweight title challenger Wilson Reis takes on Johnny Campbell, while lightweights Georgii Eivas and Jamey Lynch will provide co-main support.
Reis has picked up back-to-back wins since signing for Cage Warriors in 2022. The 38-year-old Brazilian, who now trains out of San Diego, picked up decision victories over Jeremiah Labiano and Tuomas Gronvall, and now eyes a run at the promotion’s 135-pound title. Standing in his way is Campbell, a 36-fight veteran who will be making his Cage Warriors debut.
Elsewhere on the card, in-form featherweight Robert Hernandez will take on four-fight Bellator veteran John De Jesus at 145 pounds.
The card did suffer one change, with the planned bout between Obadiah Johnson and Bill Wilson being removed from the card after Johnson sustained an injury in the lead-up to the event.
