England’s spectacular welterweight striker Michael “Venom” Page finally has a shot at championship gold, and will challenge reigning champion Yaroslav Amosov for the welterweight world title at Bellator London on Friday, May 13.
Page avenged his knockout loss to Douglas Lima in their rematch in London last October to position him for a shot at the title, which will see him face undefeated Ukrainian grappler Amosov, who has been nothing short of dominant since arriving in Bellator.
Such has been Amosov’s dominance, he stands just three wins away from surpassing the undefeated record of the now-retired Russian MMA legend Khabib Nurmagomedov. His record stands at 26-0, and he’ll be looking to turn back the challenge of Page, who arrives with a record of 20-1.
The bout will offer a stark contrast in styles, with grappling expert Amosov set to face off against elite, unorthodox striker Page, with London’s SSE Arena at Wembley set to play host to the bout. Bellator officials confirmed the bout via press release.
Page’s fighting style has polarized the fanbase, and bewildered his opponents, during his 17-fight Bellator career. His spectacular fighting style has made him a staple in Bellator’s highlight reels over the last decade. He is also undefeated on U.K. soil
Amosov’s style may not be as spectacular, but it has been every bit as effective, as he has systematically shut down each and every one of his opponents to date, including all seven of his Bellator opponents to date.
The rest of the fight card is still to be determined, but with a strong British contingent on Bellator’s European roster, expect a host of U.K. and European-based stars to be a part of the bout lineup for the event.
