Following his first successful title defence at UFC 203 this past weekend what’s next for heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic? Fabricio Werdum beat Travis Browns in the co-main event and has staked his claim for a rematch. Cain Velasquez beat Browne in much more impressive fashion with a first round TKO at UFC 200 and seems to be the popular choice within the MMA community. But what about former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones? He recently took to twitter to respond to a fan and threw his name into the hat.
“I’m starting to realize the hype is real with that guy,” said Jones. “He’s legit; I would be the challenge of a lifetime.”
Now Jones has his own legal battles to deal with not only with USADA but the Nevada State Athletic Commission to face allegations of alleged performance enhancing drug issues related to a pre-fight drug test at UFC 200, however recently made claims there could be positive news on the horizon. If he does come back sooner rather than later, Miocic is more than happy to welcome the former #1 pound for pound best fighter in the world back to the Octagon.
“I’ll fight whoever. He’s a great guy, we’ve talked before, very nice guy to me,” said Miocic when speaking to TMZ. “Hey, listen right now I’m not worried about it. Just going to chill, hang out with the wife, we’re moving into a new house in a couple of weeks.”
Although he’s willing to accept all challengers, right now, it’s just rest and relaxation on the agenda for the part time fireman and UFC champion.
“I’ll fight whoever they want me to fight,” said Miocic said. “If they want me to fight Jon, I’ll fight Jon or whoever they want me to fight next — Cain (Velasquez) JDS (Junior dos Santos), (Fabricio) Werdum — I don’t care. Right now, I’m just going to let the body heal a little bit. I’m a little tired.”
