The undisputed welterweight title is on the line in Las Vegas, as two fighters with very different skillsets get set to go head to head in the main event of UFC 296.
The final UFC pay-per-view event of 2023 will see welterweight champion Leon Edwards put his belt on the line against former interim champion Colby Covington in a matchup that will test both men to the limit.
Edwards entered the sport as a slick striker, but has evolved into a complete mixed martial artist, and completed his ascent to the top of the sport with a stunning knockout of Kamaru Usman, then a decision win over the same man, to underline his status as the top 170-pounder in the world.
Covington has a dispute with that claim, however. The former interim champion has patiently waited for his moment and weighed in as a backup fighter for the Edwards-Usman rematch in London, as he demonstrated his readiness to fight for the belt again.
Now he gets that chance, and he plans on putting his unrivaled motor and relentless pressure-fighting style to good use as he takes on Edwards for championship gold.
Ahead of the matchup, former UFC welterweight title challenger and globally respected fight analyst Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy dives into the X’s and O’s of the matchup as he breaks down the matchup in “The War Room.”
